This book is about a boy and a tree. As a young child, this boy would come to this tree, pick her leaves, eat her apples, and swing from her branches. As time went on, the boy got older and the tree was often alone. One day the boy came back and wanted to know if the tree had any money he could have. The tree said she did not have any money but that he could take her apples and sell them. Time went on and the boy got even older. He would come back but only because he wanted something from the tree like a house. The tree said that he could cut down her branches and build a house, so he did. Time kept going on and the boy kept getting older; however, the tree was running out of things to give. In the end, the boy comes back and all that is left of the tree is her stump. The boy, who is an old man by now, says that all he wants is a quiet place to rest. the tree says that a stump is a great place to do that so the old man sits down to rest and once again the tree is happy.
this is a great childrens book. it has a nice moral to the story. is has adventures on every page. its a good life lession book. i read this book "the giving tree" in 5th grade and to this day im still talking "the giving tree". its that good of a book!!!!!!! I think some parents actually like this book more than their kids do, but it is no wonder with how beautifully is portrays what so many adults know to be a sad truth of our world. I know that I definitely appreciate its continually poignant message much more now that I am a bit older and wiser myself. My next goal will be to figure out how to get this important, albeit kind of sad, message across to my students. This is a wonderful book! It offers a unique perspective on giving. It teaches that without balance there is no reward in giving for either the giver or the receiver. It shows the child that by taking without limits brings no happiness, and only creates a hunger for more. It also teaches the child that giving without limits has it's consequences to the giver. This is one of my fav books. I have it in my collection of books at home. I love this sweet story, it does make me sad at times when I read it but the ending when they are together makes (the tree and the boy) me happy again I love this book (five stars), and yet at the same time I do not like it (one star). On the one hand, it makes me sad to read it, and for some odd reason, I like things that make me sad. On the other hand, I pity the poor tree, which gets the raw end of the deal every single time. And, as I look at the book now, I realize that I have been the giving tree far too often in my own life, and it's left me as empty as that co-dependent tree. 1. 2.And the tree was happy・・・but not really. 3.700字 4.10分 A story about giving more of yourself than maybe you can. This book is about the friendship between a boy and tree that gives the boy whatever he wants even up until the boy becomes a man. I loved this story. It eloquently teaches a poignant lesson that kids will remember. Rather than simply hearing a teacher say that trees need to be conserved, kids can see the necessity of that through this story. Shel Silverstein blows me away, I love the simplicity and heavy meaning of all his books. This is the story of a boy who loves a tree. The tree gives everything she has to the boy, it makes her happy to see the boy happy. We watch the boy grow into an old man, when he eventually doesn't need anything any more, by then the tree is simple a stump. The book is sad, I think about my Parents when I read it. This is an awesome book to share when you are introducing generosity. This book is more for older children so they understand the hidden message. This book is about a boy that takes full advatange of a tree that loves him unconditionally and continunes to give him everything she can. He sells all her apples and cuts down her branches and even her trunk. In the end all she has to offer is a place to sit which that is all the boy, as an old man, needs. http://www.shelsilverstein.com/indexS... this is a cute website because it is interactive for children as well. Another classic and timeless picture book. A young boy and a tree inspire good morals of giving and taking ,as well as friendship. This is one of Shel Sivlerstein's best! silverstein.com This is a classic story and one of my all time favorites growing up. It tells of a little boy who loves to play with a tree. The tree gives him everything she can throughout the years of his life and they remain friends through it all until he is old. He has cut her down to nothing but a stump and gives him the last thing she can and the only thing he wanted, which was a quiet place to sit. Children of all ages will love this story and it is a great one to read about frienship and giving. Author website: www.shelsilverstein.com/indexSite.html The Giving Tree, is a story of a boy and a tree that loved him very much. When the boy was young, the tree provided all she could to ensure the boys happiness. The boy came back throughout his life; first he needed money, so the tree gave him her apples to sell, then he needed a house, so she gave him her branches to build a house, and last he needed a boat to go far away, so she gave him her trunk to make a boat. After years of being gone, the boy came back an old man. The tree had nothing left to give, but the boy only needed somewhere to rest, so the tree gave him her trunk to sit and rest on. The giving the tree did, made her happy, and that is why she always gave what she could to the boy. n/a This book is so touching! The tree continues to give itself to help the boy until it absolutely no longer can. This book can be sad but it teaches children about giving The Giving Tree tells the story of a boy and a tree who are friends. The tree gives all that she has to the boy as he grows. He takes everything she has to benefit himself. In the end, when the boy returns as an old man, the tree thinks she has nothing left to give him. But, all he needs in the end is a place to rest. The Giving Tree is a wonderful book to read to students. In fact at some point in your teaching career you will read this to your class. I remember when i was in elementary school, we read this book almost every year. But this book about a little boy and a tree that gives. The tree loved the little boy so much! She would let him swing from her branches, eat apples of her tree, and slide down the trunk. The little boy would visit the tree everyday. At the end of the story the tree gets cut down and there is much sadness. This is a great read and this is a very heartfelt book. A little boy had a tree that he loved and the tree loved him. When he was young he would play and climb on the tree. She would give him her branches and apples to eat. As he grew, the tree provided whatever he needed: shade, wood for a house, its trunck for a boat, and finally a stumo for sitting. The tree was happy to give her little boy anything he needed. As and old man he returned to sit on he stump, and the both were happy. Wonderful book about a tree that gives everything it has to a boy. www.shelsilverstein.com “The Giving Tree” is a touching and unforgettable tale of a little boy who has a relationship with a tree through out his entire life. The tree is devoted to the boy, loving and giving to the boy anything it has to give. The boy takes from the tree her apples, shade, leaves for a crown, and a place to climb and play. As the boy grows older he doesn’t spend time with tree because he has other interests. One day he returns as a young man and takes from the tree her apples for money which she willingly gives. Later the boy who has become an adult returns to the tree for her branches to build a house that she willingly gives. Again the boy who is now an older and sadder man returns for the trees trunk to make a boat a go far away. The tree sacrifices and gives the boy her trunk. As an old man the boy returns and the tree gives the only thing left she has to give and that is her stump for the old man to sit down and rest. This book is one of my favorite books about relationships. My thought when I read this book is of a mother with unconditional love that willingly meets the needs of a child with anything she can give. She willingly makes sacrifices and the result is “And the tree was happy.” The child always returns, even as an adult, to the one he knows loves him. The narrative poem is written with clear thoughts in a language easy for a child to understand. The lesson on giving, sacrifice, and unconditional love is presented in a parable form with some repetition in phrases to emphasize emotions. This book offers several topics that can be used in classroom discussions. In discussing relationships with peers the teacher could use the example of the tree sharing and giving. Relationships with parents can be discussed in how the parent was always willing to help the child and the child always knew the parent was available for them. There could also be a lesson on different emotions that come from relationships such as love for the child, loneliness and joy felt by the tree. The many resources from a tree can also be seen in this book which could be related to a science lesson. This book is about a tree who loves a boy and the boy loves the tree. When he is young he climbs the tree and swings in her branches and they are happy. Soon the boy grows up and he is gone from the tree a lot and one day he tells the tree he needs some money but the tree has no money. So she gives the boy her apples to sell in the market. Then the boy wants to build a house so she lets him cut down her branches to build his house. After awhile the boy wants to build a boat so he can sail away and the tree gives the boy her truck. Then the tree is left with only her stump. Finally, the boy comes back to the tree and does not want anything this time because he is old and tired. The tree has nothing left to give to the boy but the boy only wants a place to sit and rest so he sits on the tree's stump and the tree is happy again. I loved this book as a child and I would love to read it to my class one day. This book is about a boy and a tree. "The Giving Tree" is the warm-hearted story of a young boy, who comes to visit a tree every day. Each day, the tree provides just what the boy needs: companionship and a source of joy. As the boy grows older, he visits the tree less often, but each time he comes back, the tree still has exactly what he needs. This story is one of unfailing love and devotion and illustrates the great nature of human character as we continue to strive to give unselfishly to others. This book is great for young children learning about sharing and helping others. It provides simple, but effective illustrations, and also has simple text, with just a few words per page, to not make it too overwhelming for young readers. Shel Silverstein's website, www.shelsilverstein.com, provides an excellent resource for teachers and parents for more fun and educational activities to incorporate with the reading of this book. "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein focuses on the gift of giving and love. The book tells a story about a tree's love for a little boy. Throughout the story, the tree provides the boy with various things, including a place to play. As the boy gets older, he becomes more distant from the tree, but returns when he needs something. The tree continued to give the boy whatever he needed and was happy to do so. After a long life, the boy returned to the tree and they showed their love and strong friendship. This story showed the importance of giving in all relationships. I would like to use this book in my classrom and I think it is appropriate for grades K-3. An excellent book for Kindergarten children to see the human characteristic of unselfishness and the gift it brings to others. |
